Anger Management Counseling Services

Authored by William G. DeFoore, Ph.D.

This anger management counseling gets down to the roots of the problem, so the change is deep and lasting.

Have you ever tried to pull up weeds from your garden, and only got the tops? The roots are still there, and you know the weeds will come back unless you get those roots too.

The same is true of your anger. If you just learn to stifle it and stuff it, you're just "pulling the top off," and it will keep coming back.

Dr. DeFoore's counseling gets to the roots of your anger problems, and with his help you can also start planting seeds for new growth and lasting change.

"I want to thank you for helping me deal with the issues I had with anger, diet, health and relationships, and stress. I feel you have encouraged me to be decisive, confident, considered and honest and I now know the real me finally, all this time into my adult life."  Tom Rose, UK

What Do I Need To Know To Get Started?

How do you pull up your anger problems by the roots? Is this the right type of anger management counseling for you?

Excellent questions! I'm glad you asked. I'll see if I can answer these for you.

  1. Your anger really is like a weed in your garden. Those weeds (like that anger) are strong, fast-growing and if you don't take action they'll take over and interfere with the good stuff you want to grow, like:
    • Self-control of your own emotions and behavior
    • Healthy relationships with friends, family and loved ones
    • Successful professional and business relationships
    • Your self-respect and personal integrity
    • Laughter, happiness and your good heart
  2. I'm Dr. DeFoore, and my kind of anger management counseling will not only help you pull up anger problems by the roots, it will strengthen the best parts of you that you want to grow more of!

  1. So, here it is in a nutshell: just like in a garden you pull out the weeds so that the good stuff can grow, in this anger management counseling you will pull out (heal) the unhealthy anger, agitation, irritability, rage, loss of control, and aggression so that your self-control, communication skills, courage and your good heart can grow.
  2. Okay, that's how it works, but how do you do it? Here are some answers for that excellent question:
    1. Your "roots" are in your personal life experience. There's good stuff in there, and some not-so-good stuff. We'll "weed out" the not-so-good stuff and encourage the good stuff to grow.
    2. Specifically, we'll use some tried and true anger management counseling methods that will help you remember why you're really angry and where your anger comes from. When you understand these root causes, the problems will literally dissolve, and you will remember the good intentions inside you that have always been there.
    3. Here's the most important part...when your anger heals, it doesn't go away--it becomes healthy anger! Healthy anger works together with your good heart to help you become the person you really want to be.
    4. Still curious about how it all works? Well, I've been doing this for 40+ years, so the complete answer is a very long one. Basically, I use a combination of Gestalt therapy, guided imagery, Bio-energetics, Client-centered Therapy and Transactional Analysis combined with a lot of knowledge and skills I've picked up along the way.

Is This The Right Anger Management Counseling For You?

Okay, you also asked if this was right for you. Here's my response:

  1. Yes, you want this type of counseling if you'd like to get to the heart (your good heart) of the matter and resolve your anger issues once and for all.
  2. You want this type of anger management help if you believe in taking responsibility for yourself.
  3. You want this service if you've tried everything else for your anger problem and you're still not where you want to be.
  4. This is for you if you don't like yourself and want to learn (remember) how.
  5. You will benefit from this type of counseling if you are a veteran dealing with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
  6. You want this anger management help if you don't like other people and would like to learn how--this can sometimes show up as social anxiety disorder.
  7. This is for you if you are tired of all the "fussing and fighting" and abusive relationships, and would like to learn how to get along and have a good time--before you end up needing divorce advice.
  8. You want this if you're someone who wants to learn the art of being happy.

What Kind Of Counseling Does Dr. DeFoore Offer?

  • Individual counseling: I can help you in a whole variety of ways besides anger management counseling. I work with problems such as Intermittent Explosive Disorder, depression, drug or alcohol abuse, anxiety symptoms, attention deficit disorder in adults, and career issues as well.
  • Couples and Marriage counseling: I help couples resolve all communication issues, intimacy issues and parenting problems. I also offer marriage counseling to address many other types of issues, to help couples re-establish a loving connection.
  • Family counseling: This is especially helpful when I'm working with children and adolescents, and it is highly effective! I only work with children and adolescents if the parents are also involved.

What If I Don't Live Near Dr. DeFoore's Office?

How does this work? What if I don't live in Texas?

The different ways I can help you are with these forms of online counseling:

  • Telephone counseling: My clients have been amazed, and I have been amazed at how well this works! I have clients from all over the world, that I've never laid eyes on. And I have helped them just as much as the people who have come to my office. I've found that I can implement all of my strategies for anger management therapy in these phone sessions.
  • Video phone counseling: This is the same as telephone anger management counseling, but you and I will actually see each other on the computer screen while we talk. And! It costs very little to buy the equipment--about $100 to get set up! All you have to do is go to Skype.com where you can download the software totally free. This link will also give you information about the camera that you will need, if it's not built into your computer.

Also, if you're out of the area, we offer:

  • Intensive counseling programs:These options are for you if...
    • You are in a crisis and need to take immediate, effective action
    • You don't want this to take a long time--you just want to get in there and get the job done!
    • You are from out of the area and you don't think the telephone/video phone options will work for you
    • You believe you are experiencing the symptoms of anger and rage addiction or Intermittent Explosive Disorder
    • Learn more about Intensive Anger Management Counseling.

Well, that's it for now. I think you have all you need to get started with anger management counseling. Thanks for stopping by!
