What's Wrong With Me?

by Andrea

Whats wrong with me? I am a 15 year old female. I get angry for no reason sometimes when someone just annoys me when they say something. I get in trouble with my parents because I give them an attitude but I cant help it. I get so freaking angry.

I feel tired every time. Sometimes I can't even sleep. I sometimes punch things and it makes me feel better or I just start cursing. What's wrong with me?

My parents think it's a bunch of bull, but I think there's something wrong with me. Please help.

Response from Dr. DeFoore

Hello Andrea, and thanks for telling your story here.

You may not want to hear this, but there's nothing wrong with you. I do understand that you have a problem with your anger, and that it is draining your energy and keeping you from sleeping sometimes.

Your anger is there for a reason, and you need to know what that reason is. Once you know that, you can do some things to heal and feel better.

Start by doing all three of the journaling processes described on this page. This will help you to review your past, create a safe and healthy way to express your anger, and begin shifting your mental focus to the good things in you and in your life.

Also, I want you to use these imagery processes for emotional healing to bring comfort and relief to yourself regarding any past painful or traumatic experiences you have had. And practice these anger management techniques daily, and that will also help you.

The type of anger pattern you describe at your age tells me that something happened to you in the past that you have not dealt with. This is the usual cause of these types of anger problems. Take your time, and your mind will reveal what you need to know. Use the techniques I've recommended, and you should start to feel better and have better control of your anger.

Believe in yourself, Andrea. Be sure and use the positive journaling exercise to focus on your good qualities.

My very best to you,

Dr. DeFoore
