I'm Only 12 And I Get Angry Over Little Things All Of The Time

by Anonymous

Hi. I'm 12 and I get angry all the time. I get angry over small and silly things. I get angry and irritated when I'm alone and someone speaks to me.

I am very happy at school although at home I get angry when my parents tell me off and everything. I get angry when someone tells me what to do. If I'm angry at a friend I just blurt out mean things.

I know that I'm responsible for everything I say and do. Then when I see how much I hurt them I just feel really bad about it.

I also get teased a lot. People say I have no friends, I'm weird and that I have anger problems and more. I know I have anger problems but I don't know how I should fix it and I don't want to tell my parents.

I don't know what to do anymore. I let my anger out of control. Please help me. I don't know why I'm angry, then feel bad, then help them. I want to learn how to control my temper. I'm not sure if it's stress either seeing how I get a lot of homework.

Response from Dr. DeFoore

Hello, and thanks for telling your story here. I can tell you're a bright kid, and I like the intelligence I see in your writing. I want you to consider that there is nothing wrong with you. You're different, but so is everybody else, whether they know it or admit or not.

I think it will help you to do the anger journaling exercises described on this page, to give you a way to get your anger out in healthy ways on a regular basis. Also use these positive journaling exercises to shift your mental focus to the good things in you and your life.

You are a good person, and you are worthy of a good life. I strongly encourage you to try to be a good friend to yourself.

I think you're going to start feeling better, especially if you do some of the things I recommend.

My very best to you,

Dr. DeFoore
