What Are The Benefits Of Anger?
Many of us just think that anger is bad, and we'd be better off without it. The fact is that without anger, we'd be dead or living without any sense of personal power or effectiveness.
Why is that? Let's find out:
- Anger is a protective emotion, "A feeling one has toward something that threatens or opposes." This is from the Thorndike-Barnhardt Dictionary. We need to have a feeling when something threatens or opposes us or our loved ones, right?
- The question is not whether we have anger or not, the question is what do we do with the anger we have.
- When you heal your anger and channel it into healthy action, it works for you and not against you.
- Think of the physical energy, the sheer will power behind anger...what if you could use that to reach your goals? What a great benefit!
- You can use the power of your healthy anger to get emotionally healthy, be physically healthy, and age elegantly!
So you can see that anger can be--although it often is not--a tremendous benefit. Anger is an action emotion.
Healthy anger comes from self love and good self esteem, and it amounts to nothing less than a fierce determination to be healthy and happy and have fabulous relationships.
What About My Other Emotions?
We've touched on some of the benefits of anger above, so now let's look at the other emotions:
- Right there next to anger is fear. When fear is unhealthy, of course, it can turn into anxiety. When fear is healthy, it becomes vigilant awareness. Think of the power of that. Being relaxed, vigilant and aware is a key part of being safe in this world--so, you can see that fear can be very beneficial!
- Pain and sorrow--how can there be any benefit to that? Well, there is. When you're in touch with your pain and sorrow, and you know how to grieve, you become a kinder, more empathetic and compassionate person.
- And, last but definitely not least, the benefits of joy, love, peace and contentment are...well...joy, love, peace and contentment!
