True Cause Of Anger
"Anger is a feeling you have in response to threat or opposition." That is how the Thorndike Barnhart Dictionary defines anger, and I think it's the best definition I've seen.
What if you had no fear when you felt threatened or opposed? You'd have no anger. Interestingly, healthy anger fuels effective action, so without fear, you'd jump straight into effecive action.
- Most of us feel threatened or opposed multiple times every day. You may not be aware of your fear response, but it's there.
- What if, in response to threat, you rose to courage and curiosity? What if your immediate response was, "What can I learn from this? How can I step forward and deal with this instead of retreating in fear or flying into anger?".
- This takes courage. Courage is perhaps the best alternative to unhealthy anger there is. Courage is rising to your highest and best in face of threat or opposition.
- Curiosity and courage will give you mastery over whatever it was that was threatening you.
If you don't think you are feeling threatened or opposed on a daily basis, that just means you're not paying attention within your self-awareness. Just turn on the news, or think about your future...then sit quietly, and you'll hear the voice of fear speaking...and keep in mind that it might be disguised as "being realistic" or "facing the facts."
Think of it this way...
Whatever frightens you is actually an invitation for you to get smarter and stronger.
