Unhealthy Anger Makes Enemies
When you make an ememy of someone, you have actually created a problem for yourself, so you actually might be hurting your self more than your so-called "enemy."
When you feel offended, insulted, or threatened by someone, you will naturally feel some level of anger. Nothing wrong there. The only question is, what's next?
If you decide to stay angry at that person, you have to keep
feeding the toxic fire inside you, creating an "enemy" while hurting yourself.
- You certainly don't have to like everyone, or what they do. You only have to decide what you're going to do with the anger you feel, and if you make healthy choices, you have risen above the toxicity.
- Healthy anger motivates creative, productive action in the direction of what you want, trust, and believe in, rather than creating enemies in your mind and mentally railing against them at your own expense.
- This is emotional intelligence, and powerful mental health practice.
- So be the brilliant observer, who notices your anger response without reacting to it, and then you can select from the many positive possibilities that lie before you, and choose your healthy
action.
You'll run into the opportunity every day to practice this. Tha aggressive driver, the disrespectful clerk, the nosy neighbor, or the intrusive family member provide an excellent opportunity for you to pivot from unhealthy anger to healthy choices.
Think of it this way...
When you are aware, centered, and breathing deeply, you can observe your anger and make the best possible choices for yourself and
others.
