Find The Good In Anger
Anger is not a mistake. It serves a valuable and irreplaceable purpose within us as human beings.
The problem, of course, is that is not what we've been taught, or what we've experienced. We've learned throughout our lives that anger is bad, and we're bad for showing it.
So now let's find the good in anger!
- At first, anger fights against and resists what is wrong, bad, and broken. While this is unavoidable when you're faced with a threat or abuse, if you stay there you may end up beating your head against the proverbial brick wall.
- Emotionally intelligent anger looks for openings and opportunities, shifting focus from the problem to solutions.
- Unealthy, primitive anger can keep you stuck, and you can end up with bitterness, cynicism, and a defeatist attitude.
- Emotionally intelligent anger says "Ok, this thing has happened, and I don't like it. Now how can I move forward and become smarter and stronger because of it?
- Healthy, emotionally intelligent anger transforms into determination and focus, and an "I can do this!" attitude.
Think of it this way...
I can either stay mad or I can look for openings and opportunities to move forward toward positive solutions. I will make this work for me, not against me.
Anger is energy, and when you raise your emotional intelligence so that all of your emotions are healthy, you can channel the incredible power of your healthy anger directly toward the positive outcomes you choose for yourself.
