Anger Shrinks You

When you get angry, you narrow your focus to the object of your rage.

You temporarily block out other perspectives and information, becoming "small minded" or "narrow minded," which prevents big picture thinking and the ability to use your whole brain processes.

Angry people might seem temporarily huge or monstrous, or "puffed up," but that is merely an illusion to hide the diminished person inside who feels afraid and helpless.

  • This small minded person is not who you truly are. It's a fragment, a split-off version of yourself that feels threatened by someone or something.

  • Your true self is a more open-minded person who is willing and able to see the big picture, incorporating empathy - which is an antidote to anger.

  • The shrinking effect of anger threatens your health and happiness in many ways. The tightening up and closing off processes activated by anger reduce your circulation, threatening your heart and brain capacity.

  • When you relax, breathe, and make the effort to see a bigger picture that includes the vantage point of others, your body relaxes and your circulation improves.

Unhealthy anger makes a victim out of you, because it is an injustice to the good-hearted, kind and loving person you truly are

Think of it this way...

When you expand into your larger, authentic self, the perceived threats shrink and sometimes go away completely.
