Honest Anger Is Kind & Compassionate

You cannot be truly honest unless you acknowledge all of your emotions, including your anger.

This is hard for many of us, because we don't want to hurt others's feelings, so we just hold anger inside, often at the expense of honesty and intimacy.

So how can you be honest with your anger, while still remaining kind and compassionate with the one you're with?

  • Take full responsibility for your anger, by using "I statements" such as "I feel angry..." and "I feel mad..." rather than pointing the finger and blaming others for your feelings.

  • If your anger is toward the person you're with, use these communication skills to avoid attacking or hurting the other.

  • If you're just getting your anger out in the presence of someone, but it's not them you're mad at, reassure them that you're not angry at them, and ask if it's ok to express these feelings in their presence.

  • Honest, healthy anger does not hurt anyone, and it can greatly help you if you express it in beneficial ways.

Think of it this way...

Everyone has anger at some point, and this does not have to be a problem for you or anyone else, as long as you express it in healthy ways and never allow it to override your compassion..

First, be honest with yourself, and journal from your anger.

Your anger is there for a reason, and it's neither good nor bad. Like any other form of stress or tension, it needs to be released.
