Why Does Nothing Work?
by Bridget

So basically I've tried everything in the book. And when I say everything, I mean everything. Breathing, journaling, trying to laugh, you name it. Nothing has helped me reduce and manage my anger. What other options, if any do I have?
Response from Dr. DeFooreHello Bridget, and thanks for telling your story here. I'm sorry you've had such a hard time. It sounds like you've really tried a lot of different approaches. I will try to help.
First, I would suggest that overcoming anger problems requires consistent, steady work over a long period of time (weeks, months, maybe years in some cases). So...did you stick with these methods you listed, or try them and then stop? They only work if you keep using them, and don't stop until you're feeling much, much better.
You will find a list of the techniques I recommend on this
FAQ page. If you find that these also don't work for you, you might want to consider getting some
anger management counseling, or signing up for an
online anger management class.
Believe in yourself, Bridget. Use these methods consistently, non-stop, and I think they'll help you...or, you may need professional counseling or the online classes...that's your call.
My very best to you,
Dr. DeFoore
