A young boy in our school flips his desk over, yells at the teacher and others just out of the blue. It seems like he just explodes with no warning. How do we deal with him?
Response from Dr. DeFoore
Please write again, and tell me more about who you are and what your relationship to the boy is. That would help me to help more.
Meanwhile, I can recommend that someone spend some individual time with this boy. He needs one-on-one attention from a caring, concerned and strong adult.
He needs loving and strong discipline in the classroom as well. But mostly he needs someone to bond with, so that he can tell his story. There is something going on in his life and he feels out of control about it. If he can tell his story to someone who cares, this will really help.
Depending on how bad his problem is, he may also need some counseling or family counseling. Family counseling is always the best, when that is possible.
Please write again with more information.
My best to you in your efforts to help this child,
Dr. DeFoore
