Take Responsibility With Road Rage

by Anonymous

Road rage is a big problem in any place where people are driving. Humans are imperfect by nature and when we drive it only brings out these imperfections which can be deadly but at the very least very annoying.

When another commuter does something stupid that I would swear only a baboon would be capable of I get infuriated even if its just a small problem. This can be dangerous in that I tend to over react to the situation at hand. If I encountered a similar situation when I was not driving I may blow it off as not such a large issue but when I drive it brings out the worst in me.

This over reaction can be more dangerous than the act itself which is something that everyone needs to work on controlling. While driving if someone else cuts you off of otherwise infuriates you it is your responsibility to handle the situation accordingly and not get angry immediately as this will only worsen the problem.

Even if it is the other drivers fault completely, getting angry and retaliating only increases the risk of an accident and you will most likely in turn be held liable for said accident. Remember to forgive and forget and keep you and everyone else safe.

Response from Dr. DeFoore

I like the emphasis here on taking responsibility. When we don't accept responsibility and get into blaming and feeling like a victim, that's when the real anger problems get out of control. This author definitely has the right attitude.
