Physically Hitting My Sister, Help!
by Willow
(Wiltshire)
Everyone knows me as such a cheerful and bouncy girl at school, but at home it changes. My little sister, with help from the older one, winds me up so much I lash out and hit.
She is scared to be around me and I feel terrible. I hardly ever get angry with anyone. I just let it slip, it eventually builds up, and I end up taking it out on her.
We are both going through hell, please help! Thanks.
Response from Dr. DeFooreHello Willow, and thanks for telling your story here. It is time for you to stop hurting your sister, which is why you are writing on this site. I will try to help.
Here is what I recommend. Read the response to #1 on our
FAQ page, and follow all of the recommendations. These tools work, but only if you use them.
Start writing every day about what you like about your sister. Then tell her what you like about her, with no sarcasm or digs. Being good to someone is a choice you make, over and over. You have to be good to her in your own head, as well as to her face.
You can do this, Willow. Believe in yourself and believe in your sister.
My very best to you,
Dr. DeFoore
