My Story
by Ashley
(Miami)
Well, I know I have something wrong with me. But my boyfriend is the only one that knows and I can't tell anyone.
I feel so bad though, because he has his own problems, his parents split up. I used to talk to him about my problems until just the other day. I promised him then that I would never talk about it or yell at him or do anything like that again.
I know I probably shouldn't have said that, because I probably will get mad and yell at him. Not that I want to, but I just cant help it. Anyway, I cant tell anyone.
I don't know what to do any more, because I used to write on the notepad on my laptop but I deleted it because I just want to forget about my anger problems and just not get mad anymore.
Then I realized it doesn't work like that--not that I really thought it would, I just hoped.
But I need help. I'm 13 and I don't know how to get it. I can't tell my parents or anyone, except my boyfriend--and now I can't talk about it with him. So I just need help. Like soon.
Response from Dr. DeFooreHello Ashley, and thanks for telling your story here. I am limited in terms of the help I can offer you here, but if you do what I recommend, I believe you will benefit--perhaps a lot.
You talked about writing on your notepad, and that's a very good idea. The idea is that if you can be conscious and aware of your anger and the thoughts that go with it, you will have more control.
These exercises are designed for adults, but I think you may be smart and mature enough to use them and benefit. You will find a very effective step by step process on this
FAQ page.
I hope this helps you, Ashley. When you're doing the positive part of the journaling, be sure and focus on the good parts of yourself.
Believe in the goodness of your heart.
My very best to you,
Dr. DeFoore
