I'm Always Angry
by Anonymous
I don't know why or what causes it but I get so mad I punch holes in the walls and tonight I ripped a door off the wall. My girlfriend knows how to push my buttons and she does when she gets upset.
I try not to get mad but it always happens. I feel bad afterwords, but I get so mad I can't help myself.
I have never hit her or any other woman and never will, but I am destroying everything else, including my relationship. I yell, scream, call names, throw stuff and as hard as I try not to, I can't help it.
I cant afford therapy. Any helpful tips you might be able to offer?
Response from Dr. DeFooreHello, and thanks for telling your story here. Your anger does not match with who you really are, or who you want to be. That's why it bothers you and feels bad afterwords.
I suggest you begin practicing these
anger management techniques right away, and focus on the ones that help you the most.
Then do the three journaling processes described
on this page. This will help you review past trauma, create a safe outlet for your anger, and begin shifting your focus to the good in you and your world.
You are responsible for the "wiring" behind your buttons. That wiring is your own personal history, your stories of being hurt and afraid. The greatest anger comes from that place of pain and fear.
Use
these imagery processes for emotional healing to bring about resolution in these memories, and begin "rewiring" your buttons.
You will also get a free Ebook on anger management techniques when you
sign up for our free Healing Anger newsletter. This will give you more detailed information and skills for managing you anger.
Believe in yourself, and never give up on you...
My very best to you,
Dr. DeFoore
