I'm A Bartender And I Don't Know When I'll Fly Off The Handle

by Meri
(Solomon Islands)

I manage a bar and am used to ignoring drunks but last night I lost it and yelled at one of the customers. I didn't know I was going to do it. I just let fly.

Obviously in my job I can't afford to antagonise the customers. What can I do?

Response from Dr. DeFoore

Hello Meri, and thanks for telling your story here. All you need is a place to release and process your anger away from work, and you should be fine.

I suggest you start by trying the anger journaling exercise on this page, and see if that does the trick.

If it seems like you have underlying issues behind your anger, do the other two journaling exercises on that same page.

Also take a look at these anger management techniques, and use the ones that work best for you.

As a last resort, if none of that works, check out these online anger classes.

You can do this. I sense that from you.

Take good care of yourself, so you can enjoy your work and your life!

My very best to you,

Dr. DeFoore
