I Really Think I Have An Anger Problem
by Jeff
(Ontario)
I really don't know where to start. My name is Jeff, and I'm 16 years old. I've been told by friends that I should consider anger management.
Like I can be the happiest person, then out of nowhere I just find myself getting mad over nothing. I always feel the need to want to hit something.
When I'm at school I can't control my anger. Everything just seems to piss me off, such as teachers, homework, other students. Then at home, my parents can just talk to me a certain way and it will piss me off. Or, they will do something that makes me mad or upset, when it really shouldn't.
But I think I will consider taking anger management. Please feel free to comment,
Response from Dr. DeFooreHi Jeff, and thanks for telling your story here. I can tell you're a smart young man, who is willing to look at his own issues head on. I congratulate you for that. Now the question is, what to do about it.
If you find some classes to take, that would be great. Meanwhile, try the three writing exercises
on this page, and that will help you understand and begin to heal your anger.
You have good reasons for your anger, even though you don't know what they are. It is important to find out, and the writing exercises will help with that.
Also take a look at some other stories, along with my response, from other young people in your age range. You will
find those stories here.
Meanwhile, believe in yourself, Jeff. You're a good person inside, and you will get this anger thing figured out.
My very best to you,
Dr. DeFoore
