I Just Don't Know How To Release All Of My Anger

by Chad
(Oxon Hill, MD)

I have read a few listings and I noticed that I feel the same way as a few others. My biggest problem I think is releasing my anger.

It seems like no matter what I try to do I can't get out enough of it. I know I am not an angry person because I love to laugh and smile. But my anger has had more control lately.

When I get mad, upset, or frustrated I shut down and I don't want to be around anyone, especially the person who caused my anger. This was the way that I was brought up so it's very hard to change my pattern.

So my question to you is, can you suggest any ways to help me?

Response from Dr. DeFoore

Hello Chad, and thanks for telling your story here. I think you will find the help you need here. Start by using the techniques described on this FAQ page, and be sure and use whichever of these anger management techniques works best for you.

Also take a look at these pages on relationships, since it sounds like that's where your anger gets triggered:

how to deal with abusive relationships
quotes on relationships
relationship advice
letting go of a relationship

You also might find some benefit from learning about nurturing your inner child, as a way of understanding and healing the emotions behind your anger.

The most indepth anger release information is in this anger management book, which describes various vocal, nonverbal and physical methods for anger release, as well as anger communication skills.

Make up your mind to do this, Chad, and you will. The help is here, the rest is up to you.

My very best to you,

Dr. DeFoore
