Fixing Problems

by Sarah

At a job that I had years ago I brought a problem up to my boss. She looked at me and said, "Perhaps the problem is your attitude". I didn't tell her that I had been using affirmations for years and that one of my scripts was called "Dealing with Problems."

I've always thought that recognizing problems, and working to resolve them will eventually make things better and more positive. Just like punching pillows and getting anger out ends up in feeling calmer and being able to handle life better.

After I talked to the boss, I just kept any future problems or ideas to make things better to myself. This went on until a large manila envelope ended up on my desk and I was told to mail it off as soon as possible. I was told that it was a rush. I picked up the envelope and started to walk out of the door. As soon as I touched the envelope, I got a really intense feeling that something was wrong with it. I stopped, went back to my desk, opened up the envelope and read what was inside.

I found a mistake that someone had missed. This mistake would have cost the company almost a million dollars and a possible law suit. I brought the envelope back to my boss and said that I had found a mistake in it. She got angry and told me that the deadline would not be met because of me.

The person standing next to her (my boss's boss) looked at the contract in the envelope and then he said, "Let me take care of this". He asked me to leave and he closed the door. I went back to my desk.

The next day my boss handed in her resignation, and her boss ordered me a brand new computer. He put me in charge of talking to the people in the office and finding out if they had any problems that needed to be looked at so that the office would run smoother.

I think that seeing the good things that are going on in my life is very important, but seeing the problems within myself and my life and working on resolving them is also important.
