Depressed And Heartbroken
by Amanda
I live with my fiance and our 3 children. I love my family and I love our life. I just don't know what else to do.
I am angry and depressed all the time. I put on a show for the public, but when I get home, I get so angry at my fiance over the smallest things. Our youngest is a colicky 8 month old, and I am stressed taking care of him all day, and knowing not to take it out on the kids, I turn around and end up taking it out on my fiancee instead.
I know I need help, and I am hoping I can find some sort of direction by asking for advice on this site. Please Dr, I would sincerely appreciate any help you can offer me. Thank you.
Response from Dr. DeFooreHello Amanda, and thanks for telling your story here. I want you to consider that there is a good reason for your anger and depression, and you need to find out what those are in order to heal. I will try to help.
First, I recommend that you use the exercises described on this
FAQ page to understand and heal your anger. If you do each of these exercises with a sincere focus, I think it will really help you.
I also suggest that you take a look at these pages on relationships, anger and depression:

couples communication skills and read this book:
Getting the Love You Want: A Guide for Couples
. It would be great if you and your fiance could do those exercises and read that book together.
You will also benefit from learning about
nurturing your inner child and
raising your self esteem.
You can do this, Amanda. You're a good person with a good heart, and that's why you don't like the anger and depression.
Believe in yourself.
My very best to you,
Dr. DeFoore
