What Matters Most To You?

How you answer that question will tell you what your true values are. If you live according to your true values, you can become a spiritual warrior, where all of your emotional energy is channeled in the direction of what is good and important to you.

If your life is caught up in things that do not matter to you, you're going to be angry, and your anger is likely to be destructive.

Here's a way for you to clarify your values--what matters most to you:

  • Start by just making a list of the 10 things that matter most to you.

  • Write about whatever comes to mind, without worrying about the order at first.

  • Then, when you've got a good list, arrange them from most important to least important, 1-10.

  • If it's hard to decide, don't worry about it, just pick one for the first, one for the second, and so on. Also, if you have more or less than 10 things on your list, that's okay too.

Now, guess the percentage of your time that you're spending each day and each week, doing things that reflect and support those things you consider to be important. Those things you consider most important are your values.

Examples of what might go on your list are, my family, being a good husband/wife, my children, supporting my family, keeping my family safe, etc.

If you're spending most of your time focusing on activities that support your values, then you're probably a happy and fulfilled person. If not, then keep reading and you'll find out how you can get more lined up with what matters most to you.

Your Anger Needs To Support Your Values

Whether you know it or not, your anger is connected with what matters most to you.

For example, when you look at your list above, you will find that the things that bother you the most are directly connected to the things on your list that matter most to you.

Here are some ways to get your anger lined up with your values:

  • Make up your mind and heart to live your life according to your values. Start each day with a prayer and a fierce determination to live the whole day in a way that will feel good to you at the end.

  • Visualize this happening--rehearse the day in your mind, where you imagine yourself making choices all day long that are in perfect alignment with who you really are and what matters most.

  • Your healthy anger can be like a fire in your belly, that drives you toward reaching this goal.

  • Think of the drive and fierce determination it takes to overcome obstacles and achieve success in life. Watch this video, to see a true spiritual warrior in action.

Your anger comes straight out of your passion, your pain, and your bright and beautiful spirit. Being a spiritual warrior means nothing more or less than living up to who and what you truly are and were born to be.

Think of the people you admire the most in the world. They show you a picture of who you really are, and that's why you admire them so much. You can do this. You have so much goodness and power in you, and it's up to you to use that goodness and power to offer your gifts to the world, one day at a time.
