What's Funny About Anger?
Well nothing, really...but it's also true that laughter is the best medicine, and that includes anger! So, in this issue, we'll have some fun, and help you see how you can ease the heavy burden of your anger with a little light-heartedness.
Here are some things to consider when it comes to anger and humor:
- Anger often results from taking things way too seriously, especially yourself.
- Just by making up your mind to look for the humor in a situation, you have taken a few steps away from your anger.
- Your joy and your sense of humor are closer to who you really are than your anger is--so when you move from anger towards a smile, you're moving closer to your good heart and soul.
- It takes a stronger, smarter person to laugh at themselves, and find the absurdity in some of their situations.
- When you move from anger toward humor, you are moving from lower brain function to higher brain function, which is good for your heart and your health.
By the way, this is meant with the utmost respect to all those of you who are deeply wounded, and have anger issues related to those wounds. It is not intended that you just need to laugh off your situation, as if that would solve the whole problem. If you need deeper healing for your anger management issues you will find the help you need here.
So, how can we use humor to help ease the burden of anger? Read on...
How To Heal Anger With Humor
Even if it's just a temporary break, it's worth it to give yourself a good laugh. I'm not suggesting here that humor is a cure-all for anger, but it certainly will help!
So, here are some steps you can take to lighten up and laugh a little:
- Well, the first step is just to decide to start looking for something to laugh about--that can be a pretty big decision if you've been focused on everything that makes you mad.
- Next, it will really help you if you can get sold on the idea. Read this great article entitled, Laughter Is The Best Medicine, which will remove any doubt about whether this is a good idea.
- Now, if you're ready to get started laughing, and maybe even want some laughter coaching, visit Annette Goodheart, Ph.D. "The Laughter Coach."
- A picture is worth a thousand words, and here's about a thousand pictures to bring a smile to your heart.
- Now for some videos guaranteed to bring a smile, a giggle or maybe a guffaw! Check out the singing dog, a little boy named Elliot getting his first kiss and this adorable laughing baby.
If you make up your mind to look for a little laughter every day, I feel confident that you will be more successful at managing your anger. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying.
Watch this positive journaling video to learn a daily exercise you can start right now to become more positive in your focus, that will definitely take you closer to humor and away from anger.
