The Opposite Of Passive Is Not Aggressive

The opposite of passive is active! The idea is to take effective action, rather that hiding, pretending and quietly resenting. Passive aggressive behavior hurts everyone, and it's not honest.

We're going for honesty and integrity here, which means being straight-forward, direct and respectful.

Here are some thoughts to consider about passive aggressive behavior:

  • You will never get what you want being passive aggressive.

  • This kind of dishonest behavior is not connected with your good heart or who you really are.

  • Your relationships will all get worse as long as you stay involved in passive aggressive behavior.

There is unhealthy anger behind all passive aggressive tendencies--read on to learn how to make your anger healthy!

Are You Passive Aggressive?

How would you know for sure? It's a little tricky, because passive aggressive behavior is usually subconscious. Here's how you figure out if you're passive aggressive:
  • Do you often have anger, frustration or resentment that you do not express?

  • Are there people close to you that you're angry at--but you've never told them?

  • Do you find yourself saying things like, "I was only kidding" "I didn't mean anything by it" or "You're too sensitive" a lot of the time?

  • Are other people angry at you a lot, but you don't know why?

If you answered "yes" to more than one of these, chances are that you have some passive aggressive tendencies. Another thing you can do is just ask someone close to you if they think you're passive aggressive.

Basically, it means you say and do things that hurt and bother others, but you're not really aware of it and feel like you're "innocent of all charges."

Is It Someone Else That Is Passive Aggressive?

Being in a relationship with someone who is passive aggressive can be extremely frustrating. Here are some things you can do (this is a preview from the new passive aggressive page:

You can see here that we're not telling you how to change the other person. That's just not possible. Your freedom and responsibility is in understanding and changing yourself.
